I cannot comprehend the nature of the mind that thinks these bail-outs are going to solve all our financial problems. Even more incomprehensible is a Republican administration presenting to a Democratic legislature the keys to the kind of meddling control that the anti-capitalists have always longed for. It’s the old foot-in-the-door, or nose-under-the-tent, or whatever you want to call it. You can bet your bottom dollar that this will be used as a precedent for an attempt to control “big oil.” I guess that I can’t blame politicians for running for cover in an election year. After all, they HAVE to do SOMETHING or they will be viewed as not caring about us common folk! They are only acting true to form. But we have a lame duck President who should be able to be objective about the situation and should have the testicular fortitude to lay it on the line and call a bad decision, a bad decision. It’s not like it would hurt his reputation or popularity. These bail-outs have all been treated as a fait accompli – signed, sealed and delivered in concept if not reality – with little to no discussion about just letting things work out naturally. Isn’t that what business is about? Good decisions and bad decisions – sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. I guess the trick nowadays is to lose huge because then you can walk away from the problems you created with your personal fortune intact and the lay the sewage you left behind in the taxpayers’ laps. What in the hell ever happened to accountability? |
