@Alfa: Try 100 Cupboards by N. D. Wilson. Absolutely delightful. It's the first book in a trilogy, and the other two are even better. Mr. Wilson has a firm grasp of Story. You can read the first chapter for free from Amazon. If it doesn't hook you, fair enough. Won't cost anything to try...

WRT talking about what you want: Do so. If I had to seduce others to talk about what I want to I'd never get to do so. FWLIW, thats never anything here, but thats not why I hang about. Generally, you'll bring up things just a little outside of my notice, and sometimes very much so, but never anything vital so it can remain, always, entertainment. Its a Good Thing.

In relation to your most recent posts I would say that I personally hate television and I would rather read more about Poe. I would also advise anyone that watches television to at least synonymously exercise, for example for every ten minutes of television you watch do ten push-ups or sit-ups. Perhaps at least this way more Americans would refrain from being disgustingly obese and/or frail beyond repair.

Didn't mean to upset you on the subject of books. You can't conceive of how many I've read. Or my wife. But you also can't conceive how many thousands of words I read every day on the Internet. As a writer the "book" identiity no longer matters much to me. Fiction is just shit I could do myself. Otherwise, I've become an 'Information Scoop.' Sorry if that disappoints.

Writing per se no longer holds any mystery for me. The ones who are supposed to be great at it are just technical subjects, not fonts of wisdom. My apologies if this bursts any balloons...

Irony. The Black Swan figured in the women's final. Our new jock gold medalist did her own version of Oksana Baul's "Black Swan" routine. It was so ham-handed that my wife looked up the Baul performance at YouTube, done in honor of her dead mother. No comparison. Pjsana looked inspired and beautiful. The new chick trying to dance on point looked like a dog trying to dance on its hind legs. But there was no Dick Button to call a dog a dog.

I think Black Swan is practically a scene-for-scene rip off of Blades of Glory. And the latter is the better flick.

More than free--the parasites will insist on it, they will demand it--you will have no choice. Because someone has to create it all for them to loot.

The applicable American idea is "freedom RO..." Freedom to compete. Freedom to succeed. Freedom to raise my children to be valedictorians and CEOs.

My point exactly. None of you even knows where your freedom comes from and what it consists of. You're all victims.

By the same token, you can't tell me when the dream is dead. You never knew what the dream consisted of in the first place. I'll tell you when it's dead. It isn't. Yet.

Ah, I see the good Dr. RL has identified seventeen additional symptoms. That's nice. But, may I ask, why examine the patient any longer? What else can another discovered symptom tell you? Why are you incapable of finally rendering a diagnosis, of issuing a prognosis?

Please, allow me to cut to the chase for you: the condition is terminal. The trajectory is set and the symptoms will only get worse, until, finally....

You will not find a malignancy that you can cut out (Obama) that will restore the patient. There is no medicine (Gingrich). The disease is pervasive and cannot be turned back, and I have previously told you as much.

See, the disease is in all of us. Ask anyone if they value freedom, and they'll say YES, YES!!! But then ask, "freedom from what, exactly?" And they'll struggle to understand what you mean. That's because, to all of us, "freedom" has morphed into "freedom from want". What it really means is freedom from coercion--from others. But it means more. It also means hardship--from reality. None of us would willingly accept hardship. None of us would willingly throw our own mother off of Social Security. None of us would accept real freedom. We want our comfy blankets and our televisions with 49 channels and our internet.

Give it a rest; we all know what's coming. Just plan for what comes after.
