Interesting. I'm unable to see how your narrative leads to the conclusion that the United States is a shithole.

What is it you want done for you? You have a strategy for leading the (fine) artistic life that clearly isn't working. You're at odds with your family. It happens. So who is supposed to bail you out and how? The Government? Give urban predators enough stuff that they'll stop preying on you? Give you enough stuff so you can fulfill your artistic vision without encountering the minimum wage? Yell very hard at your father?

One danger every artist and writer has to be continuously aware of: I'm not painting/writing right now because, uh, excuses are more abundant than grains of sand.

Maybe it's easier to indulge an image of your fit body running for its life every day than to earn enough money for art supplies that would remove all your excuses for NOT painting.

Funny thing about big all-powerful governments. Most of their serious artists and writers wind up silenced or plotting desperately to escape. Unless their brilliantly illuminating artistic message is how wonderful all-powerful governments are.

News for you. Many before you have lived for a time in urban environments as dangerous as yours. Including me. If it's impeding your self-expression, rethink your strategy. That's the consequence and the opportunity of liberty.

p.s.s. For those of you that do not live in the inner city, here is some important information, YOU DO NOT STROLL AT NIGHT IN THE GHETTO, You run or you ride fast on a bike, sound relaxing. Come give it a try in hipster village, right next to downtown, see graffiti, extreme poverty and knife fight violence with your own eyes. Humanity at its finest right here in hipster village, come by a time share it will open your eyes about the true America, land of the free.

For three years I have ridden some of the worst bikes made by man fifteen miles a day to a minimum wage job. All winter, still dark in the morning wind blowing so hard you can barely pedal, knuckles and fingers so cold, gloves full of holes, I can't even feel my hands holding onto the handle bars, and for what? $7.25 a hour.

Summer time 113 degrees outside, melting onto the black pavement, the city smells so horrible, stagnant air, big heavy industrial vehicles blowing toxic fumes directly into my face for miles while trying to catch my breath riding a one speed huffy bicycle up a steep hill.

The next day it is raining outside, soaking wet, wearing glasses not even close to the correct prescription, brakes on the bicycle barely work as I weave in and out of traffic nearly dodging death or a painful hospital injury that will only result in yet another debt yet another bill that will only haunt me until I die, but I made it once again to the minimum wage job where I get to wear soggy socks for the next eight hours and pretend to be jovial about my state of affairs.

Of course there are plenty of bike shops with amazingly easy to ride beautiful bikes, but who has an extra $400. dollars when there are property taxes to pay, credit card bills to pay, food to eat, electricity bills, water bills, phone bills, internet bills, website bills, animal bills, student loan bills.

Of course the upside is I look great, fit as fiddle, healthy as a horse and growing stronger everyday, but still a bit bother some never the less.

I have not painted an oil painting in over a year because I have grown tired of not having the correct supplies every time I turn around I am out of paint or using a paint brush that is the equivalent of trying to eat cereal with a fork, easier to just stop trying when it never really seems to be available.

Oh life, so beautiful it is when you are not constantly on the brink of poverty or being hounded by the police state for buying a toxic asset, or marrying an insane person, or going to college.

Oh, but so glad to hear my family is doing well, Dad just bought that expensive sports car he always wanted to remedy mid-life crisis number two. How great it is thinking about him zooming around the country side while I over indulge on fried potatoes and ketchup.
