Debate Concluded

The long road home.

PUNK WRITERS THINKING THINGS OVER. It was a more contentious affair than most had anticipated. There was much to consider and differences of opinion were keen. Assignments have been given for writing up the results, but candidly speaking, those assigned are not all at present up to the task, including some of the regulars at this site.

Many, to be honest, are still recuperating.

We shall try to fill in, as best we can, with the fare you have come to expect. Right now, though, it's time for our nap.

Trends in Shaving

PUNK CONNECTIONS.  This is the last time we'll show you the sculpture of Britney Spears giving birth. Promise. Have you learned anything? Have we learned anything? No. We're just as infantile as we've always been. We can prove that with our last citation. But a least we're not so crude as to try to explain the relevance. It speaks for itself:

Razor Wars.

Regardless, we shall return to daily blogging tomorrow or the next day with our gall undiminished. Is that okay with you?

The Goddess

PUNK CONNECTIONS.  While we're out of town, we're looking through a glass darkly at the sculpture of Britney Spears giving birth. One angle we'd be remiss in overlooking is the resurgent concept of The Goddess, which is being celebrated in neo-pagan fashion through the Gaia cult of the Wiccans and environmentalists. The same iconography has also slopped over into the treatment of female celebrities of various kinds. Like most pagan ideas, there's not much point in intellectualizing it very much, because the purpose of symbolism is to evoke irrational and subconscious responses. Still, we've committed the sin of thinking about the goddesses who so fascinate the mainstream media. We are heartily sorry for all of the following:.

Report from Athens.
Instapunk Scoop.
Breasts Not Bombs.
The New Katie.
How It Will Happen.
Valerie Flame: DC Undercover.
Salvation Via Hillary.

The good news is, we're almost done with Britney. After Monday, we'll be ready to move on to other matters. Yeah. We're relieved too.

PUNK CONNECTIONS.  While we're out of town, we're considering different angles on the sculpture of Britney Spears giving birth. One of the more obvious topics is children. Everyone seems to love "the kids," but do we have any idea what we're turning them into with our 21st century approach to child-rearing? We should all be thinking about it because whether we like it or not, the future is in their hands. What kind of hands are they? We've taken a few shots at them in the past couple of years. Do any of our observations strike a chord with you?

Odds Check.
Which is Worse?
The I-Generation.
The Box.
Gender Squabbles
A Gorey Tale.

Well, as they say, tomorrow is another day. See you then.

Star Power

PUNK CONNECTIONS.  While we're out of town, we're offering up a bunch of different angles on the sculpture of Britney Spears giving birth. Today, we're considering the possibility that more than just femaleness is involved in the increasing demands of celebrities for attention and adoration. It used to be that Star Power was synonymous with box office appeal, a purely economic measure. Now it has ballooned into a complex new relationship between average citizens and the population of performers they have turned into mega-millionaires. Increasingly, we're expected to follow them as models not just of fashion trends, but of lifestyles, political views, sexual preferences, and moral conscience. There's a laugh. Here are a few more star power chuckles, both male and female, that should occasion more embarrassment than Britney's sculpted behind. After all, she's more successful at having babies than other stars are at having ideas. See for yourselves:

Let's Impeach the President.
House of Lords, Part Deux.
Springtime for Clooney.
Poverty Ends in Africa.
Air America: The Serial Action Drama.
The Raitt Wing.
Still Mad.
Snake Eyes.
We Can't Wait.

Have a nice day and come back tomorrow, hear?

Girl Power

PUNK CONNECTIONS.  While we're out of town, we're working a bunch of different angles on the sculpture of Britney Spears giving birth. As we said yesterday, it's hard for us to think of Britney as a diva, since she's still in her twenties. Maybe it's more productive to view her as a manifestation of Girl Power. Problem is, we're still not sure exactly what that is, though we've been grappling with the concept for some time. It seems to have something to do with women who aren't afraid to seek fame and power by wringing every last possible drop out of their sexual personas. Maybe they're not afraid, but the rest of us probably should be. Take a look:

A Little Display of Girl Power.
Return to Modesty?
Dowdy Booty.
Dowdifying Dowd.
SCOTUS Smackdown.
Antichristiane Ammanpour.
Come O-o-o-o-n!

That's all till tomorrow.
